PlayStation

(also known as PS1 or PSX) is a gaming console developed and manufactured by Sony Interactive Entertainment. First launched on December 3, 1994, in Japan and in North America a few months later. Although it was the first production of gaming devices, Sony proved that PS was a potential system that made rivals like Nintendo 64 and Saga Saturn from well-know manufacturers must be wary. A more compact version of the PS, named PSone, released in 2000, contributed significantly to PS sales. As of March 31, 2006, the day when the PS versions officially ceased, there is more than 102 million units were sold. This is also Sony’s first step on the road to dominating the console market in the world, continually reaping success thanks to the next and most recent PlayStation generations, the PS4.

Going back to the PlayStation, it has a lot of different variants, but they all have a rectangular shape. The front of the device has a BluRay disc slot, a point that exists on later generations. PS is equipped with 32-bit microprocessor, allowing processing images with resolutions from 256 x 224 to 640 x 480 pixels with 16.7 million colours. The PS controller is based on Nintendo’s basic SNES controller configuration but has many notable upgrades. Typically, the addition of the icon buttons, something that has never been seen before, allows us to expand the way games work. The traditional A, B, X, Y keys are changed by the △, ◯, ✕, ☐ buttons with different colours. These characters also quickly become icons of the PlayStation.
